Rosewood = wood rose in literal translation: faux-ami, the rosewood used in cabinet-making and especially lutherie designating that some family of the rosewoods Dalbergia. The rosewood (or "tulipwood" in English) means wood lumber than a single species: Dalbergia variabilis (also called brazilian tulipwood-nothing to do with brazilian rosewood/Dalbergia nigra-, Pau rosa, Pinkwood, jacarandá rosa).
